Service
/ Inspection of stairlifts
Its
a well known fact that many new stairlift Chair lift owners
do not take out the additional service / maintenance contracts
offered to them by the stairlift supplier due to the high cost
of the extended warranty prices
How
often should i have my stairlift serviced / inspected
One of the
most common questions asked? How often should i have my stairlift
serviced / inspected. Its highly recommended that stairlifts
have at least 1 annual service inspection by a qualified stairlift
engineer
Periodic
Service inspection of your stairlift will certainly prevent
inconvenient breakdowns "that said", like motor vehicles!
Complicated mechanics and many moving parts within the system
cannot guarantee that breakdowns won't occur
What
does a stairlift service consist of?
A
full inspection of the stairlift carriage should be undertaken.
Rollers should be checked for wear and play. Safety gear should
be checked for correct operation including all electrical switches.
All electrical wiring should be examined including high voltage
trailing cables and replaced if any signs of damage or excessive
wear
All safety circuits
should be checked in both directions for correct operation.
Moving parts cleaned and lubricated following the stairlift
manufacturer recommendations. The track should be inspected
for signs of hairline cracks fractures and all fixings should
be correctly aligned and secure plus adequate earth bonding
(CPC)
Wall or remote Call
/Send units should be tested for correct operation including
correct operation of parking the stairlift on charge. Powered
hinge rails should be tested and inspected and lubricated following
the manufacturers instructions. Gas- Rods should be checked
without power to ensure correct operation and ensures the hinge
stays upright without any power applied to the hinge rail unit
Mechanical stops
and cams including over-travel limits should be tested and aligned
for correct operation. On completion of the service inspection
a copy of the service report should be given to the stairlift
owner and all log cards signed & dated by the engineer
Above is a basic
list of what should be inspected. Obviously each stairlift manufacturer
will have their own guidelines and requirements that their stairlift
engineers will follow when conducting a service inspection of
stairlifts
