The main reason you should never buy a new Stairlift! Their resale value is very small indeed. The average price for a straight stairlift £1500 resale value if you are lucky £250-300
New curved Stairlifts cost anywhere between £4000-6000 and resale value if you are lucky £300-500 please note curved Stairlifts are bespoke! Custom made for each staircase.
Actually only the Stairlift rail is bespoke design so the true resale value is for the Chairlift the part one sits and rides on.
Be warned most manufacturers do not offer buy back schemes and if they do again the amount they offer will be very substantial from the retail price you paid for it.
So the big advantage of buying Second hand used Stair lifts is less start up costs since most pre-used Chairlifts are being offered at around the 600-800 mark the savings are tremendous and one would find it hard to tell if the item was new or reconditioned if they purchase from a reputable dealer
The second main advantage of buying a pre-used unit is the resale price would nearly be as much offered for someone selling a new Stairlift. Obviously the seller of the near new item would have lost many hundreds of dollars even before they start the selling process
If one is handy with a set of bed spanners they could even save more money by taking the DIY Stairlifts approach and purchase a unit from the local classifieds. This really should only be undertaken by someone with an electrical mechanical background preferably in the service maintenance field
To make the DIY installation process even simpler one would be wise to choose a battery operated driven Stair lift removing all required knowledge of electrical installation. One simply plugs the Stairlift charger unit into a convenient power supply outlet socket
